Things went catastrophically wrong. It was a real mess. We tried to {compensate|address the situation, but it was like trying to stop a tsunami with a cocktail stick. We're still picking up the pieces and feeling the sting of this epic fail.

This crisis has spiraled out of control. It's a total fiasco. We've tried anything to fix it, but nothing seems to more info work. At this point, it feels like we're hopelessly stuck. Frankly, I don't know what else to do. This is a train wreck of epic proportions.
This is So Bad, It's Funny (Not Really)
Sometimes you find yourself face-to-face with situations so terrible that you can't help but laugh. It's like your brain tries to understand the sheer magnitude of unadulterated absurdity and just gives up, opting for a weak, desperate giggle as a coping mechanism.
But then, you remember that it's not really actually that amusing. It's just plain horrifyingly awful. And the laughter you felt morphs into a wistful, melancholic sound.
After all is said and done, you are left with a sense of confusion. You start ruminating about the purpose of it all. Was this some kind of twisted art experiment?
Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?

Dreadful Day Ever
It all started with a terrible case of terrible hair. I couldn't make it to look right. As I was running out the door, I fell and gracefully all over my new shoes. To make matters worse, I was totally late for work.

By the time I reached my destination, I was exhausted. This day, this horrific day will be forever remembered as an epic fail.

It all started out horribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then everything went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to run away and hide.
